Guitar Competition 2020 | Youth Category

The Youth Category of The Classical guitar competition of Finland will be organized as an online competition. The main purpose of the competition is to support and encourage young guitar players. Also online guitar lessons are available for all ages.

Eligible competitors

The Youth Category (Groups 1-3) is open for all students of music schools and Sibelius Academy and students, who take private lessons in Finland. Due to COVID-19 all competitors must be residents of Finland. Full time students are not eligible. Participants are approved in the order of registration. Later registration is possible if the competition is not full.

Program of each age group

The age group is selected by the age on November 7th 2020.

Group 1: 12 years and younger (Sun 8th November 2020)
Group 1 has one round and maximum duration of the performance is 8 minutes. The program is free of choice and may include an own composition or improvisation. The program may be played either by heart or from sheet music.

Group 2: 13-15 years (Sat 7th November 2020)
Group 2 has one round and the maximum duration of the performance is 10 minutes. The program must include music by a composer born before year 1900. Otherwise the program is free of choice and may include an own composition or improvisation. The program may be played either by heart or from sheet music.

Group 3: 16-20 years (Sat 7th November 2020)
Group 3 has one round and maximum duration of the performance is 15 minutes. The program must include music from two periods. Otherwise the program is free of choice and may include an own composition or improvisation. The program may be played either by heart or from sheet music.

Fees

Register for the competition by buying the competition ticket from online shop. Number of competitors is limited. If the online shop runs out of stock, register for waiting list by emailing johanna@tgf.fi. If the event will be cancelled by the organizer, the fee will be refund. If the competitor cancels the participation, the competition fee will not be refunded. For additional fee there are also online guitar lessons available for the same dates.

  • Group 1: 60 €
  • Group 2: 70 €
  • Group 3: 80 €

Prizes

Each group of Youth Category will receive a cash prize, which will be divided according to the decision of the Jury. There are also other prizes, and the most memorable performamers will be awarded as The Stage Lions.

General and technical instructions will be added here soon.

Other terms

The organizer may record all the performances and broadcast them live and after the competition. All rights belong to the organizer and recordings may be used in any form or manner in the future without any compensation. All competitions will be streamed live at TGF's YouTube channel.

By applying to the competition, the participant accepts all terms of the competition. In unclear interpretations of the rules, the organized has a right to clarify the rules.
