Guitar Competition 2020 | Youth Category

The Youth Category of The Classical guitar competition of Finland is organized for the second time, and it will take place on November 7-8, 2020 in Tampere, Finland at Tampere Music Academy. The main purpose of the competition is to support and encourage young guitar players. Listening to the competition is free of charge – teachers and parents are warmly welcome.

There are also guitar lessons and other activities available at the same. The Youth Category is organised by Tampere Guitar Festival in association with Tampere Music Academy and Guitar Teachers’ Association of Finland.

Eligible competitors

The Youth Category (Groups 1-3) is open for all students of music schools and Sibelius Academy and students, who take private lessons in Finland. Due to COVID-19 all competitors must be residents of Finland. Full time students are not eligible. Participants are approved in the order of registration. Later registration is possible if the competition is not full.

Program of each age group

The age group is selected by the age on November 7th 2020.

Group 1: 12 years and younger (Sat 7th November 2020?)
Group 1 has one round and maximum duration of the performance is 8 minutes. The program is free of choice and may include an own composition or improvisation. The program may be played either by heart or from sheet music.

Group 2: 13-15 years (Sun 8th November 2020?)
Group 2 has one round and the maximum duration of the performance is 10 minutes. The program must include music by a composer born before year 1900 and music with both fast and slow tempo. Otherwise the program is free of choice and may include an own composition or improvisation. The program may be played either by heart or from sheet music.

Group 3: 16-20 years (Sat 7th November 2020?)
Group 3 has one round and maximum duration of the performance is 15 minutes. The program must include one etude from Garden of Etudes by Adam Vilagi. Otherwise the program is free of choice and may include an own composition or improvisation. The program may be played either by heart or from sheet music.

Fees

Participation fee will be charged the participation has been confirmed. If the event will be cancelled by the organizer, the fee will be refund. If the competitor cancels the participation, the competition fee will not be refunded.

Active Package includes registration fee for competition and lessons on November 7-8 and concerts at Tampere Music Academy.

Prizes

Each group of Youth Category will receive a cash prize, which will be divided according to the decision of the Jury. There are also other prizes, and the most memorable performamers will be awarded as The Stage Lions.

Other terms

The organizer may record all the performances and broadcast them live and after the competition. All rights belong to the organizer and recordings may be used in any form or manner in the future without any compensation. To ensure equal and peaceful environment for all competitors, the audience is not allowed to take any photographs or videos during the competition. Depending on COVID-19 situation during the competition, all competitions may be streamed live and the number of audience may be limited. 

The organizer will not be responsible for the competitors’ instruments or personal property. By applying to the competition, the participant accepts all terms of the competition. In unclear interpretations of the rules, the organized has a right to clarify the rules.

Accommodation

For accommodation we recommend Aparthotel Forenom (Puutarhakatu 37, Tampere) located nearby the main venue Tampere Music Academy. Accommodation needs to booked directly from the hotel.
